THE ESTATE
Bononia Estate occupies fifty hectares of prime viticultural land on the southern banks of the Danube, just outside the ancient town of Vidin. The property stretches across gently rolling, south-facing slopes that capture the full warmth of the continental sun from dawn until the long golden evenings of late summer.
The terroir here is singular. Loess and clay soils, enriched by millennia of alluvial deposits from the Danube, provide deep mineral nutrition to the vine roots. The river moderates temperature extremes, creating a microclimate that extends the growing season and allows grapes to develop complex flavour profiles while retaining natural acidity.
Twelve grape varieties are cultivated across the estate, from indigenous Bulgarian treasures like Gamza and Dimyat to internationally acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Viognier. Each parcel is managed individually, with organic practices and sustainable viticulture at the heart of our approach.
